Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB)

The DSMB is responsible for safeguarding the interests of trial participants by assessing the safety and efficacy of the interventions during the trial, and for monitoring the overall conduct and progress of the trial to ensure that the results will be interpretable and of value to medical practice. The DSMB provides recommendations to the Division of Genomic Medicine (DGM), National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), NIH about stopping, continuing, or making modifications to the trial to enhance the safety of trial participants, the value of the information collected, and/or to protect the integrity of the trial.
